Former X Factor winner Shayne Ward is returning to the world of soap opera, six years after his character Aidan Connor was killed off in Coronation Street. This time, he'll be starring alongside his real-life fiancée Sophie Austin in an episode of BBC's Doctors.
Strictly star Shayne Ward is set to make a shock soap comeback – six years after he quit the Corrie cobbles. The 39 year old former X Factor winner left Weatherfield back in 2018 when his character, Aidan Connor, was killed off. But in news that will delight his fans, the BBC has confirmed he is set to take on a new role, this time alongside his stunning real-life fiancée, Sophie Austin.
At one point he was tipped to join Take That after band member Jason Orange quit, but instead went on to play Aidan in Coronation Street, winning a National Television Award in 2016. Aidan's tragic suicide shocked viewers when it aired in May 2018. But now it's been revealed he will appear in an episode of the BBC's daytime soap Doctors, in an episode called Shock Therapy, playing Kenny Webb. Not only that, but Shayne's fiancée Sophie – who he got engaged to in December 2017 – will play a character called Sandra Horner, according to The Sun.
Doctors was recently cancelled, with a BBC spokesperson saying at the time: "We have taken the very difficult decision to bring daytime drama Doctors to an end after 23 years. With super inflation in drama production, the cost of the programme has increased significantly, and further investment is also now required to refurbish the site where the show is made, or to relocate it to another home.
