Tourists are unable to visit the world famous medieval manuscript after students piled up wooden benches outside the entrance in protest at the ongoing conflict in Gaza
Trinity College students in Dublin barricade entry to the Old Library building housing the Book of Kells in protest at war in Gaza. Dublin’s Trinity College has been forced to close the building housing the world famous Book of Kells after student’s barricaded the entrance incampus containing the medieval, illuminated manuscript, which illustrates the four Gospels of the Bible, after demonstrators at the college in Ireland piled up wooden benches across the the main access.
The university said “an unauthorised BDS encampment is in place in Trinity” and to ensure safety “access to campus is restricted to students, staff, residents and Department of Sports Members with college ID cards only”. “The closure of the Old Library impacts on researchers, whether they are students, staff or visiting international researchers”, it said, “It also impacts on the staff working there, many of whom are students themselves.”
New York Police Department officers have arrested students at New York University and Columbia University in campus demonstrations. An encampment of around dozen tents had sprung up at the University of Leeds, West Yorkshire on the green facing the Leeds University Union Building.the university is “monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of participants, as well as our wider community of staff and students”.
He said the univserity was also “very aware that this is a vital time of year for many students taking a range of exams and assessments”.
