Students have been settling for “nightmare” accommodation as bed shortages have skyrocketed since the pandemic There will be a predicted deficit of 620,000 student beds by 2026, according to analysis 🔴 connie_dimsdale reports
Bed demand in Glasgow has grown by 16,526 from 2017 to 2023, while the supply of student accommodation has increased by just 3,316, data analysis by StuRents shows.
Mr Ward, from StuRents, said the situation shows “no signs of letting up”, with fewer student accommodation developments planned over the coming years after reaching a peak in 2016. “Trying to find accommodation for two weeks while I was staying in hotels really affected the way I engaged in the course,” he said.
Mr Adesulu found a private landlord on Facebook after searching around housing websites and even “narrowly” avoiding getting scammed by someone advertising a room on social media. He said: “It was a nice experience living in the place but there was no contract and the person’s family came back and I had to move rooms to accommodate the family.
