. His joking about the new monarch won’t be surprising to anyone familiar with his work;is a biting caricature of an uber-wealthy media family, skewering the concept of power: where it lies and who gets to wield it.
Armstrong’s joke wasn’t the only controversial moment of last night’s Emmys. To present the award for outstanding writing for a comedy series, late night host Jimmy Kimmel was dragged onto the stage by comic actor Will Arnett, pretending to have passed out from drinking too many “skinny margaritas”.
Many viewers were upset with Kimmel, claiming he upstaged Brunson. Secretary of the US Television Critics Association Andy DehnartBut Brunson herself appeared to be unphased by the intrusion. “Jimmy, wake up. I won,” she joked when accepting her Emmy, and later told reporters backstage that Kimmel’s bit “didn’t bother” her that much.
