The British Embassy in Sudan says the situation remains"perilous" and said reports suggest convoys evacuating people from the country have come"under fire".The safety of British nationals is the embassy's"utmost priority", it said, and reiterated the advice for people stuck in the area to stay indoors where possible.
Officials including Spanish foreign minister Jose Manual Albares waited on the tarmac for the evacuees' arrival."It is a happy moment and a moment of relief," he said of the evacuation operation. Mr Haq added that Mr Guterres has affirmed the"continued dedication" of the UN to"stand with and work for the Sudanese people".Multiple rescue operations have taken place to evacuate foreign nationals from the area of intense conflict in Sudan.Its presidential office said 28 South Koreans arrived via bus at the Port Sudan New International Airport for evacuation on military aircrafts.
Meanwhile, the prime minister's spokesman said the government was exploring"all avenues" for how to get British nationals out of Sudan. "We will not be commenting on the exact make up of that team for operational reasons," the spokesperson added.
