🔴 The Home Office has changed visa rules in a bid to crack down on the number of asylum seekers reaching the UK from Honduras and Namibia
which passed the Lords this week aims to make it so that “the only way to come to the UK for asylum will be through safe and legal routes.”person must be physically on British soil.
no provision within our Immigration Rules for someone to be allowed to travel to the UK to claim asylumFor many people, it is also not possible to get a plane to the UK to seek asylum. Since the updated policy on Dominica, Honduras, Namibia, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu, which passed the Lords this week, would mean anyone who arrived by small boat is unable to apply for asylum in the UK and will instead be deported and barred from ever re-entering the UK.
Under the new rules, people from Honduras and Namibia would need a visa to enter the UK. A standard tourist visa to the UK costs £100, must be obtained three months before travel and must be applied for and approved by the Home Office.
