SULFUR dioxide (SO2) emission and rockfall events at Mayon Volcano have increased in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Friday that the Mayon Volcano continues to emit sulphur dioxide (SO2).

Phivolcs chief Teresito 'Toto' Bacolcol said that a total of 13 pyroclastic density currents or 'uson'' 307 rock fall events and four volcanic earthquakes were recorded as compared with three PDCs, 306 rock fall events and two volcanic tremors on June 15.Mayon Volcano. 'So we are not discounting yet the possibility of an explosive eruption,' he warned.Meanwhile, he said that Alert Level 1 will stay over Taal Volcano, also in Batangas because of its weak volcanic earthquakes and seismic activity which was 'just around background level.'The volcano has been placed under its current level since July 11, 2022 due to its increasing SO2 gas emission.
