The solstice occurs when the sun is directly above the Tropic of Cancer, which will occur at 12:50 p.m. It’s the earliest arrival of summer since 1796 — 228 years ago — when George Washington was still president.
Seasonal wildfire activity continues to increase across the state, with the latest update showing just over 70,000 acres have burned. The largest fire, the McDonald, accounts for 40,000 acres by itself.
