left Rishi Sunak facing a tough fight in three constituencies after announcing they would be stepping down with immediate effect.
The call was echoed by the Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, as the rival parties hope to inflict more damaging by-election defeats on the Tories. “Two of the seats, certainly if we lost them they would return to us quite sharpish. If we lost Mid Bedfordshire [Ms Dorries’s former seat] and Selby and Ainsty [where Mr Adams was MP], those are seats we’d win at a general election no matter what happens with the election,” they said.
