Millions of smartphones across the UK will have sounded off a loud test alert this afternoon – but not everybody has received the warning.

Today’s notification, planned for 3pm on Sunday, April 23, was a test of the Emergency Alerts serviceBut responses to the planned alert suggested that a number of people received their notification one minute early, some several minutes late, and some haven’t received one at all.

The alert even impacted the London Marathon, with crowds of people slowing down to check their phones.Craig Lin said: ‘True to form, the UK Government’s #EmergencyAlert has fallen short. Despite having five mobile phones in this house, only one got the alert.Paul Bowerman said on Twitter: ‘Got my UK Gov Emergency test alert 20 minutes later than expected, twice, in English and Welsh.

Sukhmani Sethi said: ‘Mine hasn’t gone off yet. Would not be surprised if it’s just @ThreeUK having a signal so s*** that not even a state emergency alarm will be carried by its network.’However for those who did receive the alert, there were complaints about the timing. Twitter user stace_the_face shared a picture of her Sunday roast with the caption: ‘Rudely interrupted by the government.’
