James Gunn has offered up another Superman update as the cast and crew of the upcoming DCU movie celebrated wrapping filming in Cleveland.
on Wednesday, Gunn shared a series of photos and kind words for the city of Cleveland. In the posts, Gunn called the city a “special place,” and praised the people of the city who served as background actors as helping him be reminded of why they’re making movies in the first place.
“The wonderful background actors on the film were always so fun and funny and they clapped after takes, something that reminded us Hollywood cynics why we make movies in the first place,” said Gunn in his post. “The pride you feel in being where Jerry and Joe first created Superman was invigorating. You exemplify his spirit. But just as much it’s the pride you have in your community, your hometown, your radio stations and restaurants and gathering places that touched me.
In a reply to some fans, Gunn was quick to note that filming on the project hadn’t concluded yet. Instead, filming had just wrapped for the city of Cleveland, with more production to continue on the “long shoot.” “We are not done shooting,” said Gunn. “Still a couple weeks left. Just done shooting in Cleveland. And yeah it’s a long shoot… but we’re getting close!!”
“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”.
