She explained that understanding where supermarkets place their products on shelves can make a significant difference in price.
Quilton highlighted that items placed in the middle shelves, where they are easily visible, tend to be the high-margin, popular products. Supermarkets strategically position these items at eye level to entice customers into making impulse purchases. However, she advised shoppers to look elsewhere, particularly on the lower shelves, where similar products are often available at lower prices. Quilton emphasized that the reason for this price difference is that shoppers are less inclined to bend over and look at products on the lower shelves.She pointed out the current economic climate, stating that people are spending 30% more on their weekly grocery shop compared to 2021. This increased cost of living puts greater pressure on budgets, making it even more important to find ways to save money. Quilton's tip about looking lower on the shelves serves as a simple yet effective strategy to reduce grocery expenses. The government is also considering raising the contactless payment limit, which could provide further convenience and potentially encourage more contactless transactions. Currently, the limit stands at £100 for purchases made with bank cards in shops like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Asda, and Morrisons. A higher limit would allow shoppers to make larger purchases without needing to use a PIN, potentially streamlining the checkout process
