I am an assistant professor at Syracuse University. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Sport Management, my M.S. from UMass Amherst in Sport Management, and my B.A. in Political Science from Bryn Mawr College.

Moderate-to-high levels of depression symptoms are found in 29% of girls who have never played sports, compared to 17% of girls who currently participate. Depression symptoms are notably lower in sport environments emphasizing effort, improvement, and teamwork, compared to settings where winning is prioritized and success is measured by outperforming others .
