WASHINGTON — The legal argument that worked for President Donald Trump failed to deliver for one of his supporters on Monday as the Supreme Court turned away a New Mexico man who was kicked out of local office over his role in the events of Jan. 6. Couy Griffin, a founder of 'Cowboys for Trump,' was criminally convicted over his role in Jan. 6 and lost his job as a county commissioner as a result.

'We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But states have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency,' the court said. As a result, Griffin's case was effectively resolved. The court rejected his appeal on Monday without comment.
