There are 15 surnames most likely to be due an eye-watering inheritance and one last name is worth almost £19 million, according to new research.
With the average estate being valued at £150,000, people across the UK could be in-line for a payout worth up to a staggering £1 billion, the Daily Record reports.The analysis found that people with the surname 'Smith' are the most likely to be owed inheritance, with a total of 122 unclaimed estates falling under this last name.
Ms Head said: “With our research revealing there have been more than 6,000 unclaimed estates in the UK since the start of the year it is evident that many people are failing to adequately prepare for their death. This will include your owned property, savings and investments, physical possessions, bonds, shares, royalties, insurance funds, pension funds, and liabilities.
The person you name should be someone you trust, for most people it’s usually a family member or close friend. Ensure you ask the desired person first so they are aware of the responsibility they’ll have. Here you need to be clear about how you are dividing your estate and who you want to benefit. If you do have specific wishes for a certain asset, then you should make this clear.
