A suspect remains at large after a New Mexico State Police officer was shot and killed on Interstate 40, authorities said Friday.
A New Mexico State Police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty on a highway Friday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred early Friday morning on Interstate 40 near mile marker 320, near Tucumcari in eastern New Mexico, officials said. The officer -- identified by state officials as Justin Hare -- was fatally shot while responding to a call, according to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. State police released photos of the suspect in the shooting and said he was last seen on foot on the I-40 Frontage Road at milepost 304, between Montoya and Newkirk, police said.
