Published: May. 30, 2024 at 5:01 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - After using them during a medical emergency, people often find themselves in possession of medication they no longer need.For that reason, the Fairbanks Police Department has a year-round option for those looking to get rid of their unwanted medications.

The goal is to combat drug problems in Fairbanks by making sure they do not end up in the wrong hands. They also pose a potential risk to the environment. “We utilize the drug takeback program to keep drugs from being flushed down the toilet where it can seep into the groundwater or contaminate soil,” he said.

These are handled with no questions asked, said the FPD Chief. “All you do is pull the box down, put your medication in and close it, and they slide into a box in the back.”
