Chris Sutton isn't of the opinion that all three Nottingham Forest penalty calls against Everton were clear cut and he has questioned the club's stance on social media
Pundit Chris Sutton has criticised the collective message coming out of Nottingham Forest in the wake of their 2-0 defeat at Everton on Sunday, and the string of strong penalty shouts which were, in turn, waved away by the officials on the day. Forest took the extraordinary steps of addressing the calls of Anthony Taylor on the pitch and VAR Stuart Attwell by venting their anger through social media.
Sutton raised his concerns over the manner in which the club had conducted themselves in the fall-out of the damaging defeat, through X, since Sunday afternoon - something which he believes to be driven by the club's owner Evangelos Marinakis, and a theme of message which has since been publicly reiterated by boss Nuno Espirito Santo and defender Neco Williams.
"There are so many mixed messages from Nottingham Forest," Sutton told BBC's Monday Night Club. "The way I've read what Nuno has said is that, since he's gone into Forest, they have been targeted, somehow. That was my reading of what he said, and that is utter nonsense. When Forest first tweeted, it was pretty obvious that that came from the top - that's Marinakis.
"I don't know what he can necessarily achieve. He works on behalf of Nottingham Forest and of course he's going to back them, they are paying his wages, but I don't really understand where this is going. What can they actually do about this? This threat at the end of the first tweet...what action can they take? Who can they target? Are they doing this for the good of the game? I think not.
