The 15-year-old – an alleged associate of the boy accused of stabbing Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel – was refused bail.

A 15-year-old Sydney boy accused of plotting a terror attack has been refused bail for allegedly making explicit threats of wanting “to do something catastrophic” to Jewish or Assyrian people.

Viney said the risk arose from the boy’s alleged “explicit threats to stab either Jewish or Assyrian people”. The magistrate also highlighted the boy had been charged with multiple offences including assault and having a knife after an incident at a Lurnea bottle shop on April 22 when he allegedly threw a plank of wood.

The magistrate said the court had “no doubt that the young person’s parents love and support him”, acknowledging their presence in court during Wednesday’s hearing and Thursday’s decision, and that they had appeared “genuinely shocked” by the charge against their son. The teenager allegedly wrote about wanting to undertake an attack in France. “I just got scared because someone I know got the same thing ... they got done 30 years, and they were 14,” he wrote. “I have so much hatred for these kuffar and I want to do Jihad now”.The magistrate said: “ messages clearly set out the young person wanted to do something catastrophic to Jewish people or Assyrian people, and wanted to do it bad.
