Hounsell, who analysed Opal data collected by the state’s transport agency, said patronage during the weekday peak periods remained a long way from returning to pre-pandemic levels.“It raises questions about whether people are just working from home or that there is a bit of a recession under way. Patronage usually drops during a recession,” he said.
Business Sydney executive director Paul Nicolaou said Thursday had become the “new Friday” in the CBD with workers back in their offices and socialising after work at hospitality venues.
