A Sydney Trains official has revealed why peak hour commuters were stranded for hours after a widespread network failure on Wednesday, and assured the system is now stable and operating reliably.
Sydney Trains chief executive Matthew Longland appeared on Sky News Australia on Thursday to assure commuters services were running as normal.
“Our priority at the moment is to make sure the system is stable, which it is, and we worked overnight on that, services are operating reliably.”Mr Longland revealed his technical team reported that they were experiencing a network-wide failure in the train radio system. Trains were forced come to a standstill and passengers were turned away from stations as officials investigated the incident.
The Sydney Trains chief said engineers had to manually locate the error in the network, which was found to be a faulty component.The incident caused major chaos and extensive delays as commuters were left stranded, particularly in the CBD.
