Moscow has established direct contact with the political wing of rebel group Hayat Tahrir al Sham in Syria, according to Russian state media. Meanwhile, Antony Blinken has arrived in Turkey for talks about the developments in Syria.

One of the major concerns in the wake of the Assad regime falling is what will happen to Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons.The Assad regime denied using chemical weapons, but the global chemical weapons watchdog found evidence indicating their repeated use by Syria during its civil war.Now, an emergency meeting has been called by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to discuss such concerns, the first time it has done so in six years .

Speaking on The World with Yalda Hakim, Jerry Smith, a former chemical weapons inspector in Syria with OPCW, said the country previously declared a quantity of its chemical weapons, 'but we always suspected that there were more'.'I think the concern is that there is remaining capability, whether that's the agent itself or the ability and the equipment to manufacture it, plus the people that were involved,' he said.
