Paddy Dowling, photojournalist for The Independent, returned from the mountains of Arsal and discovered how the humanitarian relief effort to help Syrian refugees in Lebanon is being exacerbated by the country’s economic context
Nayef, 35, left the Syrian countryside in 2014 to flee war for Lebanon. Nestled among the snowcapped mountains of Arsal he sits by his stove which has run out of paraffin. His two young daughters have not eaten for two days. Temperatures in the winter rarely rise above zero degrees by day and fall to as low as -8 at night.
