The mother of a critically ill five-year-old girl has begged doctors not to block the family's bid to take her to Italy for treatment that they hope could save her life
Doctors from a hospital in the Italian city of Genoa examined Tafida via video link and told her family they are prepared to care for her - something her parents are desperate for.
Ms Begum added:"They kept on saying if we want Tafida out, then 'you need to take us to court, we are not going to release her'. But they were not prepared to budge. We have written to all the medical directors pleading with them not to take us to court. "Don't spend £400,000 of tax payers' money, and us spending £400,000, near to £1m on this case. For what? Everyone clearly knows Tafida is not 'end of life'."The hospitals are talking about her best interests and that she must die. Is that really true? There's an expert team from another gold-standard hospital saying they can take her and treat her.
"We recognise how difficult this is for all involved and, in accordance with national guidance from the General Medical Council in complex cases, are seeking the expert opinion of the High Court to ensure the Trust and the family provide the most appropriate care."
