EXCLUSIVE: 'She was not brain dead, she had a life in her.'

A COUPLE fighting to save their critically ill daughter have told of the moment doctors said they were going to end her life.Five-year-old Tafida Raqeeb suffered a brain injury called AVM in FebruaryNHS clinicians believe it is in her best interests to switch off her life support but her parents are challenging that decisionThe NHS is going to court next month to argue she should be allowed to die, against her parents’ wishes.

"We can do her ex-tubation at nine o’clock. She will die at about ten and you can bury her about one o’clock’.That was the moment Shelina and Mohammed began their search for other options. “She was really struggling for breath, and by the time I got through to the paramedics she had stopped breathing. I put her on the floor and just panicked."Then my sister in the same street came running and took over. Tafida had come back to life when the paramedics arrived.”Shelina was not allowed in the ambulance because paramedics were battling to save the little girl’s life on the way to nearby Newham Hospital.

Shelina said: “He told us, ‘If I don’t take her to theatre now she is going to die. I am only giving her a one per cent chance. Most likely she is going to die on the table’.Tafida survived but the following morning her heart stopped.and the family were told if she had not died by noon, she would definitely die within 24 hours. She has been on life-support ever since.

"On that day, June 19, they said she would die within two weeks, that she was heading for a major stroke.Looking through Tafida’s medical records, Shelina was horrified to discover her daughter had been assessed to be a donor for organ transplants. But a ray of hope came from a family friend whose daughter is a patient at the Gaslini Children’s Hospital in Genoa, Italy.
