The escalation of military activity by Beijing follows on from a prediction that war could erupt by as soon as 2025 over the self-governing democracy of Taiwan.
However, the Defence Department has distanced themselves from the remarks, saying they were “not representative of the department’s view on China”.
In response Beijing’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said the issue of Taiwan was a matter for the Chinese and urged the United States to stop “meddling”. The escalation comes after United States Air Force General Mike Minihan instructed officers to prepare for a US-China conflict over Taiwan in 2025. Picture: AP
