Manchester Museum is set to reopen its doors this weekend after being closed for a year and a half to undergo a £15 million refurbishment
This weekend, Manchester Museum will finallyto the public after a £15m refurbishment. Since closing its doors in the summer of 2021, the museum, which is part of the University of Manchester, has undergone a major transformation with a brand new extension and new permanent galleries.
There’s also a new Lee Kai Chinese Culture Gallery, the Belonging Gallery and a brand new Dinosaur display. And, don't worry the ever popular vivarium will also be back too with its amazing array of exotic living amphibians and reptiles. For its latest transformation, architectural firm Purcell designed the new, modern two-storey extension, cladding it with green-glazed terracotta tiles in a nod to the historic buildings of Manchester from the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
