Nice way to spend an April afternoon
Each week, we like to feature a suggested walking route to give our readers the opportunity to explore Lancashire - sometimes we'll focus on a certain area or landmark and others will have a different basis.
With many of those who spend their time walking around the county doing so with their dogs, this week's route is based on offering a treat to those four legged friends. The walk is a fairly short one but comes with a relaxing route around a canal in Garstang. The start and end point is the Bellflower pub on Parkside Lane which is known as Britain's most dog friendly pub. With toys, treats, a wide selection of bowls and blankets, and water dispensed from beer barrels, there's plenty of thought gone into making the venue an ideal place to visit with pets.At the Bellflower, dogs have their own menu, entrance door and beds, while kids are also catered for through two play areas and free wifi.
The walk covers a distance of a little under three miles and most people will complete it in around one hour. To extend the route, instead of taking the right path at the end Park Lane, head left and continue into the town centre. Alternatively, you can easily adapt the journey to factor in stops at Millenium Green or the ruins of Greenhalgh Castle.
