Central Australian GP Dr John Boffa said Alice Springs was seeing the benefit of takeaway alcohol-free days, with a decline in police call outs and domestic violence incidents.
The crime crisis sweeping Alice Springs has seen a"dramatic improvement" since the introduction of a two-day ban on takeaway alcohol as a decision looms over whether to reinstate blanket liquor restrictions.

Dr Boffa said the ban was the"circuit breaker" the community needed as discussions continue over whether to reinstate Intervention-era alcohol bans.
“We can’t use the fact that alcohol restrictions are very effective to not get at the key underlying determinants of the problem."
