Lord Mayor Sally Cap has insisted Melbourne is going from strength-to-strength on her watch, denouncing critics such as former premier Jeff Kennett, who has become 'disillusioned' by her priorities.
Mr Kennett took aim at the “rate of decline” and warned there is a real risk the city “will be dead” if she is given another term.
But Ms Capp, who has been in the position since 2018, rubbished those claims, in an opinion piece in the Herald Sun on Thursday. She acknowledged the “darkest of days” experienced through the record-breaking coronavirus lockdowns but touted the dramatic turnaround. Ms Capp cited the recent Global Livability Index list, which ranked Melbourne at third, and new research that crowned the city as the country’s top domestic tourist destination.“The rhythm of the city has changed, but so has the rest of the city.
