Tam has urged the Hibs fans and board to make sure the seats are filled
The usual suspects are up in arms at the decision from the Hibs board to cut the Old Firm’s tickets at Easter Road. But I don’t blame them.
St Mirren told their fans it would cost them a whack of money to take a stand off the Old Firm. But their own crowds responded by filling the seats themselves. We want to see full stadiums. It makes for better atmospheres and you don’t want to see rows of empty seats in games on the television. There were some encouraging signs in pre-season and in the League Cup – even if the shocker at Kelty Hearts could prove to be fatal to their hopes of picking up the first piece of silverware. I said before the competition they needed four wins out of four to get that seeding but that bad day at the office cost them and look what’s happened – they’ve landed the worst possible tie out there with a nightmare trip to Celtic Park.
That’s what you get. I guess the only way to look at it is they’d probably need to beat a Celtic or Rangers to win the tournament anyway, so maybe it’s best to get it out the way early before new signings can settle. Listen, he’ll be getting offered players left, right and centre. But it’s no use signing any old names – it has to be the right ones. Too often it’s been quantity over quality for Hibs. The recruitment has been shocking the last couple of seasons. It’s cost the last two managers their jobs.
It’s important Hibs get good ones in the door and I’d also like to see another wide player and attacking midfield. That means they are at least four players short right now.
