An eventful 90 minutes at Ibrox brought more than a few talking points for Hibees as Tam pours over the Ibrox encounter
I had to check it wasn’t April Fools’ Day on Sunday when I read that Hibs could be in trouble for their light-hearted social media swipe at Rangers’ penalty award.
But listen, I don’t think it was a spot kick and justice was done when David Marshall saved it and Rangers were then done with encroachment. Look, things might be deadly serious in the battle for the top six but Hibs were doing a pretty good job of making people laugh on the pitch on Saturday too. It’s hard not to laugh as it then rebounded onto Will Fish and knocked him over - and the coup de gras is that the ball then landed on top of Newell again! That was a typical stupid centre half, they’re not all Virgil van Dijk unfortunately, and if I was Newell I’d be fizzing.
I just shut my eyes when I saw Albertz talking his big run-up and, to be fair to Grant, he only kind of half turned his head but the German’s howitzer clattered off his lug and he was eating grass before I even opened my eyes. Speaking of blows, Hibs must be so frustrated at the timing of the goals against Rangers after fighting back with another strike from Myzaine Maolida who has been excellent.
And believe me, if they miss out on top six then this season will have been a huge disappointment. Not building on the fifth place and European qualification of last season would be really poor given the budget and size of the club.
