Despite their short tryst, the musicians actually have a long, complicated history. Healy and Swift first met after she attended one of his band’s shows in LA in 2014. “We exchanged numbers,” he told the Australian radio show Shazam Top 20 at the time. “I mean, bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift? She’s a sensation; I wouldn’t say no!” From there, both parties were seen wearing each other’s merch.
However, after an alleged fling, Healy gave a controversial interview in which he claimed it would be “emasculating” to be known as Taylor Swift's boyfriend. Of course, this was nothing compared to his laundry list of problematic statements and actions, which is why many Swift fans have denounced the rumored relationship and criticised their fave for seemingly condoning his behavior.
TMZ reports that Taylor Swift's last public outing with Matty Healy took place on May 25. A few days prior, Swift told an Eras Tour crowd of 60,000 fans that she's “never been this happy in my life—in all aspects of my life—ever before." Hopefully, that's still true without Healy. I bet it is.
