Why the teacherstrike is happening today
Thousands of schools across the UK and Yorkshire are facing days of disruption in both February and March as teachers strike over pay.
Many schools will be forced to close due to the strikes, with the first date on Wednesday February 1. This includes almost 100 schools across Yorkshire and Leeds which have confirmed closures.In total around 127,000 teachers and 16,000 support staff, all members of the National Education Union , voted in favour of the strike action in England and Wales. This vote resulted in four confirmed days of strike action that will affect Yorkshire.
"We sincerely regret it, but we're pointing to disruption that is happening every day in schools. If we don't persuade Government to invest in education that disruption just carries on."Who is striking and why? Teachers in the National Education Union, the country's largest teaching union, voted to strike over pay.
