School staff are walking out for six days during this summer term, starting from this week
Teachers at an independent school have planned six days of strike action this term in a row over pay and pensions.
A parent of a child at the school, which caters for youngsters in Nursery to Year 6, says it's unfair that children will be 'missing out' on valuable learning time and even worse when they are paying so much in fees, which they've been told are increasing from September. It's understood that up to two dozen teachers will be taking the strike action, with a picket line planned at the Schools Hill site for Thursday morning. Future strikes are planned for May 21 and 23 and then June 11 to 13.
“Instead the school is seeking to make teachers foot the bill for retaining access to a decent pension, rather than meet its own financial obligations to its hard-working staff. “To make matters worse, the behaviour of the employer has been obstructive and opaque, in an attempt to ride roughshod over teachers’ contractual terms and conditions.
