After the NHL announced that Utah is getting a hockey team, officials throughout the state released statements welcoming a new professional sports team.
Ryan and Ashley Smith, owners of the Smith Entertainment Group which owns the Utah Jazz and now the Utah NHL team, said, "Today is a great day for Utah, for hockey, and for building a legacy that will have a lasting impact for generations to come." Salt Lake City's Mayor Erin Mendenhall issued a statement quickly after the initial announcement as well.
