The sports-mad billionaire will re-brand it Team Ineos and pump £40m a year into the outfit, which has won six Tours de France.

Ratcliffe has a personal fortune of £21bn and is a Manchester United fan who holds a season ticket at Chelsea.

Cycling author and Sunday Times writer David Walsh said:"For his £40m a year he will get good publicity because this is a team that will keep winning, no question about that. "For someone who is British born and British raised, and a fantastically successful businessman, he has set himself up in Monaco as a tax exile, so this is good publicity after some bad publicity."Sky unexpectedly announced in December that it would be terminating its reported £35m-a-year cycling deal at the end of 2019 but multibillionaire Ratcliffe's investment will be"even greater", according to a source close to the negotiations.
