Teddi Mellencamp, known for her time on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, used World Cancer Day to highlight the importance of regular skin cancer screenings. The reality star, who recently faced the harrowing experience of evacuating during the devastating LA wildfires, shared a graphic image of a large, Z-shaped scar on her back. This scar serves as a stark reminder of her personal battle with melanoma, a particularly aggressive form of skin cancer.
Mellencamp's journey began with several growths on her back that she initially dismissed. However, concerned friends urged her to seek medical attention. After a diagnosis of stage two melanoma in 2022, she underwent a series of approximately 20 surgeries to combat the disease. In January 2024, she announced she had reached remission, but still requires frequent three-month checkups. The most recent surgery, a wide excision for melanoma and soft tissue defect reconstruction, left her with the prominent scar visible in her Instagram post.Her experience has made her a vocal advocate for early detection and prevention. Mellencamp urges her followers to prioritize their health by scheduling regular skin checks, mammograms, OB/GYN appointments, and eye doctor visits.
