Teen accused of murdering student in Fallowfield ‘took to heart’ YouTube skateboarding joke, jury hears
A 19-year-old accused of stabbing a student to death in Fallowfield became 'angry' after a 'silly and annoying' skateboarding joke stemming from a YouTube trend, a murder trial has heard.
Jurors previously heard that Luke was treated at the scene on Wilmslow road for eight substantive stab wounds. He was rushed to the Manchester Royal Infirmary , where he was sadly pronounced dead after going into cardiac arrest. On the third day of the trial at Manchester Crown Court, jurors heard evidence from Mr Robertson, who had been walking home from a Halloween party with Luke and another friend at the time of the incident.
Giving evidence in court, Mr Robertson said the 'kick flick' comment was 'based off a series on YouTube in America where people shout out the window 'do a kick flick' at skateboarders'. He later added that in the series, skateboarders are given free T-shirts and skateboards if they perform the trick.
"The defendant took the knife and showed it but nothing more happened with the knife then, did it?", Ms Grey asked. Mr Robertson replied: 'No'."I didn't think it was going to escalate into anything," Mr Robertson replied.
