The 17-year-old cannot be identified for legal reasons due to his age
A 17-year-old youth has appeared in court having been charged with murder. The teenager, whose identity is protected by law, was supported by family members during the hearing, which was closed to other members of the public and press at Nottingham Crown Court.
Simon Eckersley, his barrister, did not apply for bail on his client’s behalf and the case was sent to Derby Crown Court where the teen will appear again on Tuesday, June 4. Derbyshire police were called to reports of an assault in Addison Street, Tibshelf, at 8.37pm on Tuesday, May 28. A man in his 40s suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the alleged killing, a spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: "A 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with murder. He appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 30, when the case was adjourned and he was remanded in custody.
One shocked resident, shopkeeper Mohammed Monir, 49, said: "There were lots of police in the area last night. You could hear loads of sirens and it was incredibly busy. We don’t normally see things like this here and it’s a big shock for the community. I just send my best wishes to anyone involved." Another resident, who preferred to remain unnamed, said: “It’s such a tight-knit community, we’ve never seen anything like this before. Around 9pm we heard loads of sirens and police were lining the main road, apparently an air ambulance landed on the field behind the house. It was a real commotion.”
