A 16-year-old boy was convicted of murder while three others were found guilty of manslaughter

A teenager has been found guilty of murder after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a ‘revenge’ attack. Kennie Carter was knifed in the street in Stretford .

Kennie was murdered more than two years ago, on January 22, 2022. The 16-year-old convicted of murder, known only as Boy A for legal reasons, admitted stabbing Kennie but claimed to have been acting in self defence. The nine other defendants were seen on CCTV in the area of the killing and were accused of supporting and encouraging’ Boy A to ‘take deadly revenge’ following an incident the day before.

Prior to charges being brought by police, they appealed to members of the public to help officers and added: “Young lives like Kennie's are being lost far too often and this has to stop." Police made arrests in the days after Kennie died, but charges only followed in November the following year. Kennie became ‘the focus of the revenge’ after he was spotted walking down the street, the court heard. He had been on the phone to his older brother moments before he was stabbed. Sonnie Carter could hear someone in the background of the call say: “You’re the one who had backed that pole innit."

Mr Hamilton said: “A person can be guilty as a secondary party if they share the intention of the principal and act to encourage or assist the offence.”
