Ainsley Lowton has been charged with the unlawful killing of James Lowton
A jury has been sworn to try a teenager accused of murdering his father in Derbyshire. Until now, a press reporting restriction prohibited the publication of Ainsley Lowton’s name as being the man charged with allegedly killing his father, James, as he was only 17 at the time of the incident.
Derbyshire police were called to reports of an assault in Addison Street, Tibshelf, near Alfreton, at 8.37pm on Tuesday, May 28, where the victim had suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The defendant, of Addison Street, was later charged with murdering his father, who was in his 40s.
At the time of the incident, which saw an air ambulance land in the fields to the north of Addison Street at around 9pm on May 28, residents from the "tight-knit" community spoke out. Shopkeeper Mohammed Monir, 49, said: "There were lots of police in the area.
