17-year-old Luke Littler, aiming to become the youngest PDC World Champion, has defeated Stephen Bunting to reach the final against three-time champion Michael van Gerwen.
Teenager Luke Littler dominated Stephen Bunting 6-1 with a powerful performance to secure a place in the PDC World Championship final against Michael van Gerwen on Friday. The 17-year-old, runner-up last year, aims to become the youngest winner of the tournament following a remarkable 12 months that have seen him achieve national recognition. Littler averaged 105.48, his highest of the competition, as he overpowered his fellow Englishman at Alexandra Palace in London.
Three-time champion Van Gerwen, who defeated Chris Dobey 6-1 in the semi-finals on Thursday, became the youngest winner at 24 in 2014. 'If we both play like we did tonight, it's going to be really good,' said Littler about the final, which begins at 19:30 GMT. Fourth seed Littler has grown increasingly confident throughout the tournament, racing to a 4-0 lead on Thursday. Eighth seed Bunting won the fifth set but missed three double attempts to win the next, allowing Littler to extend his lead with a bullseye checkout to clinch an 84 finish. Third seed Van Gerwen also won 6-1 and remains cautious. Littler's demolition of former BDO world champion Bunting showcased why he has taken the darts world by storm, throwing 13 180s and landing three ton-plus finishes. 'It's been an amazing tournament so far,' he said. 'I've just beaten what's in front of me and I'm glad to get through.' Littler has climbed from 164 to number four in the world rankings since his fairytale run to the final in January 2024, where he lost to Luke Humphries. He won 10 titles in his debut year as a professional, amassed over £1m in prize money and was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. In the process, he has helped elevate the profile of darts, with the number of junior academies doubling.
