Armed intruders broke into a home in Melbourne's south-east overnight and stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the leg and back in what police believe was a targeted attack.
The intruders were allegedly carrying poles and a machete when they broke into the house on Arcadia Avenue in Hallam about 10.45pm.Police were called to the Hallam home about 10.45pm last night. Two 16-year-old boys, two 15-year-old boys, a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were also inside at the time, but were not injured.Detectives from the Casey Criminal Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the stabbing.

Over 1,500 firefighters protest in MelbourneOver 1,500 professional firefighters in Victoria are protesting in Melbourne today following a breakdown in wage talks between the union and the Victorian government. The protest is expected to be the largest the United Firefighters Union of Australia has ever seen in Victoria. The rally is due to a breakdown in negotiations around an enterprise bargaining agreement the union and Fire Rescue Victoria have been working on for the better part of two years. They had sorted out every aspect except wages and allowances. However, due to the continued disagreement on wages and allowances, the Victorian government decided to scrap the enterprise agreement.
