A 12-year-old student from Willetton Senior High School has been hospitalised with severe injuries after being struck by a car in a hit and run on a pedestrian crossing outside the school.
The incident occurred about 8.30am on Tuesday when the 12-year-old was attempting to cross over a pedestrian crossing on Pinetree Gully Road in the city’s south.
The girl was walking to Willeton Senior High School in the city’s south where she is enrolled as a year 7 student.She was then struck by a vehicle while trying to cross and the driver behind the wheel failed to stop. The teenager had been dropped off near the school’s entrance by her mother just five minutes prior to the hit and run, according to Nine News.
WA Police said the girl sustained severe injuries in the crash, with Nine confirming she was left with a broken collarbone and leg. Paramedic crews provided assistance to the 12-year-old at the scene following which she was rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital for further medical intervention.Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information relating to it is urged to contact authorities immediately as officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section probe the hit and run.
