A 16-year-old girl from Scotland has tragically died after contracting influenza over Christmas. Her condition deteriorated, leading to sepsis. The family expresses gratitude for the medical care she received but mourns the loss of their vibrant and outgoing daughter.

A 16-year-old girl from Turriff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland , tragically passed away after contracting influenza over the Christmas holidays. Orla Taylor, a fit and healthy teenager, initially experienced a slight cough before developing a fever on Christmas Day. Her condition worsened, leading to vomiting, prompting her parents to seek medical attention at the out-of-hours G-doc service at Inverurie Hospital twice between Christmas and New Year's Day.

Sadly, Orla's flu progressed into a respiratory infection that ultimately developed into sepsis. On Hogmanay, her family called for emergency medical assistance as her condition rapidly deteriorated. Paramedics and a nurse practitioner, recognizing the severity of her illness, believed it to be sepsis and immediately began treatment. Orla was transported by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary just after midnight, still displaying her usual cheerful disposition despite being gravely ill. Doctors, however, informed the family that Orla would need to be placed in a medical coma for optimal treatment. Tragically, by mid-afternoon on New Year's Day, Orla passed away. Her devastated family, including her parents Scott and Fiona, her brother, sister, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, expressed their immense gratitude for the dedicated care Orla received from medical professionals from the initial nurse responder to the team in intensive care. They cherished the memories of Orla, a fun-loving girl who enjoyed family holidays and had a passion for sports, particularly football. She was a player-coach for the local youth team, Turriff United, and had recently left school to pursue her dream of joining the army after completing her uniformed services course.
