Teenage girl fractures skull and severs spinal cord in Malaga balcony fall
A TEENAGER fractured her skull and severed her spinal cord after she fell from a third-floor balcony in Malaga.
Niamh had moved to Spain from Newry, Co Down, Ireland four years ago with her parents – mum Claire, 47, and dad Damien, 49.that medics had told her parents she would be paralysed from the waist down.Mum Claire described her daughter, who is currently studying for her A-levels, as a “fighter” and said she had a strange nightmare on the night of the accident.They rushed to be by her hospital bed as soon as they heard the news.
She added: "She is very determined, really lively, always having fun, always just a really lively girl." The family are currently fundraising to buy the specialist equipment she will need when she eventually gets out of hospital although that is not expected to happen for several months.
