A teenager has been sentenced to six years in prison after stabbing a motorist following a collision in Bury, England. Jamil Satchell, 20, claimed self-defense after the Audi driver allegedly deliberately drove towards him on a moped.
A teen stabbed a motorist after a car deliberately drove at him. Jamil Satchell was on a moped with another man in Radcliffe, Bury, when an Audi was then seen to ‘cross the carriageway at some speed’, Minshull Street Crown Court heard. The car drove towards Satchell, 20, and collided with the moped. Afterwards, the car crashed and in the aftermath Satchell, then 19, stabbed the Audi driver in the chest.
The driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident, on May 21 last year, screamed “I’m going to die, I’m going to die,” as blood poured profusely from his chest. He was able to run off but could have died without the correct treatment, prosecutor Adam Lodge said. Meanwhile Satchell and the other male got into the Audi and drove off. Satchell, who was driving, crashed nearby and police caught up with him. He was later arrested and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. Satchell submitted a ‘basis of plea’ document, in which he said he ‘feared for my life’ after the Audi driver had deliberately driven his vehicle at him. The defendant said he hadn’t intended to stab him in that area. Defending, Dan Calder said that Satchell had experienced ‘trauma’ as a child. He said the defendant was capable of taking responsibility for his actions. Satchell, of West View, Haslingden, Rossendale, also pleaded guilty to robbery and one count of having a bladed article in relation to an incident in June 2021, where a young man had his phone stolen in Radcliffe. Satchell pulled up his top to reveal that he had a knife during the robbery. He denied producing the weapon at any stage. The defendant also admitted attempted theft in connection with an incident in Prestwich in August 2022, where thieves tried to steal a woman’s electric scooter. Judge Maurice Greene sentenced him to six years in total for the offence
