The VW Golf was found partially submerged in a wastewater tank in Castleford, West Yorkshire , just before 6.20am, and the victim was found yards away from the car.
Police were called to Wheldale Sewage Works after reports a vehicle had left Whedon Road and crashed into a sewage ditch. Two other occupants of the vehicle, a male and female both aged 21, were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment. They have both since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has since been confirmed as an 18-year-old from the Wakefield area, but he has not been named publicly.
