An inquest was opened into 17-year-old Finlay Turner-Smith's death
A teenager died in a Nottinghamshire town due to the effects of MDMA, an inquest was told. Finlay Turner-Smith, died at an address in Nursery Close, Hucknall , on March 23.
An inquest was opened into the 17-year-old's death at Nottingham Council House on Thursday, July 24. A provisional cause of death was attributed to the effects of MDMA, a Class A drug also known as ecstasy, following a post mortem examination. Nottinghamshire has seen a huge increase in drug-related deaths in recent years. There were 125 deaths concluded by coroners as drug or alcohol-related in 2023, significantly above the 84 in 2021.Area coroner Laurinda Bower, who was joined at the hearing by a solicitor acting on behalf of the family, expressed her condolences. "I'd like to express my sincere condolences to all those who knew Finlay," she said.
The inquest was told Mr Turner-Smith was identified by his parents at the Queen's Medical Centre following his death. The inquest was adjourned until a date yet to be fixed.
